Double Overhand Slip Hitch/Poacher's Knot

I prefer this hitch for tying in the belay line to a patient in a litter, it prevents a bight of rope from catching on the gate of a carabiner which would cross-load it and potentially break the carabiner during a fall. It also works great for making a cows-tail for your climbing system.

Step 1: Run the rope through the carabiner.

Step 2: Tie a double overhand knot over the load side of the rope.

Step 3: Slip the knot tightly against the carabiner.
